	Download the source files for installation and later use on your local workstation or server. For this mode you'll need administrator access on your workstation and some system expertise in scripting languages. (Free; Unix only).

Functionality and Limitations of Online 3D Text Generator

Gregory Ryan, an excellent lead user of I-DEAS from Exabyte Corporation (gregr@exabyte.com), developed a set of capabilities for the creation of 3D Text and submitted the programs and the associated files to the public domain via a posting to the ICCON Bulletin Board on November 21, 1996. With Greg's approval, WAMware extended the supported fonts and made the 3D Text Generator available (for download and online execution) on the WAMware website. Some specifics:

WAMware is providing the subscription service for web hosting, not for the application itself, and therefore the 3D Text Generator itself is provided "as-is" without application support or warranty.

Supported fonts:

Block (uppercase only) -- characters supported

Times Roman -- characters supported

Helvetica Bold (uppercase only) -- characters supported

Known Limitations

The resulting I-DEAS program file should be run within an English language session of I-DEAS, as the macro commands have not been converted to assure successful operation with non-English language user interfaces.

There is a problem entering the sole character "0" (zero). As a workaround, enter "0x" and then delete the surfaces of the "x" once created in I-DEAS.

Occasionally "tolerance" problems occur where the profiles generated in I-DEAS do not close and therefore do not result in solid objects. The workaround is to manually close the profiles and then extrude the desired solids.
