Accessing Incline High School, Spanish Department Podcasts

File Formats

Twango accepts a wide variety of file formats, but the following are suggested as the most portable formats to support a wide range of visitors:

bulletAudio file formats:  .mp3, .wma
bulletVideo file formats: .mp3, .mp4, .aac, .wmv, .avi

Uploading Existing Files

Audio, Video and/or Photo files are easily posted to the host site (Twango) in either of two approaches:

bulletEmail Uploading
bulletsimply create a new email addressed to... e.g. ihs-spanish.9-10.goat@twango.com (for the 9-10 class)
bulletattach the desired file to the email
bulletsend the email
bulletNote: this method can be used to very easily upload a Camera Phone file (audio and/or video) to Twango... simply email the file from the phone to the correct email address.

bulletgo to www.twango.com
bulletenter... (username / password)... Sign in
bulletclick on my channels under the "home" tab
bulletunder the desired class... e.g. Incline Spanish -- 9-10... click on upload media
bulletBrowse... select the desired file (must be in MP3 format) on your local disk... upload
bulletchange the title, author, etc of the file... then click continue

Creating Audio Files for Podcasts

bulletInstall Audio Editing Software (e.g. Audacity)
bulletclick to download the Audacity install files... Open the .zip file... and extract files to e.g. \My Documents\audio-install
bulletgo to the install directory, e.g. \My Documents\audio-install... double click on "audacity-win-1.2.6.exe"... this will install the Audacity software

run Audacity via... Start, All Programs, Audacity

make sure that a microphone is plugged into your computer

click the Record button (red circle)... (speak into the microphone)... click the Stop button (brown square)

File, Export as MP3...

(the first time you do this, you'll need to locate the MP3 plugin... which is in the install directory, e.g. \My Documents\audio-install)

you can store the MP3 wherever you wish... just remember the location... e.g. \My Documents\podcasts-to-upload... as you'll need this to Upload to Twango

you can also use Audacity to do lots of editing tasks... e.g. Fade in/out, cut sections, etc.

Creating Video Files for Podcasts

bulletNote: to minimize Twango resources, video should be stored with the following parameters before uploading to Twango:

bullet512 pixels wide
bullet15 frame/sec
bulletvoice quality mono audio

From DVD disks
bulletthis is accomplished with reasonable ease using the free Windows Media Encoder (download and install from this link)
bulletinsert DVD into reader
bulletrun Windows Media Encoder... Capture Audio or Video... select DVD data... store digital video as a .wmv file

From Video Editing Software

a number of free Video Editing tools are available, include Windows Movie Maker (download and install from this link)

these programs allow cut/paste, fade, special effects, music overlay... and finally Export to a digital file format, e.g. .wmv or .mp3
