eMetaKON Product Announced for Web-based Full Power PDM

PALM SPRINGS, CA, USA  — April 11, 2000 —   The WAMware Group and its joint venture partner ECS announced today at the CIMdata 2000 Conference the new eMetaKON product, providing full-power out-of-the-box Product Data Management and Document Management for the Internet/Intranet. Built upon proven PDM success of the MetaKON modules, the user is lead through tasks that encourage engineering workflow throughout the enterprise.

bild1.gif (4472 bytes)eMetaKON addresses the needs of companies wishing to leverage a comprehensive, pre-configured PDM solution directly from their web browser. Interactive functions are accelerated with a modern, easy-to-use Java2-based user interface.  The eMetaKON user interface can be further tailored to best match the various application profiles, optimizing the learnability and productivity for each user group.  The user’s individual profile is maintained within the clear and consistent window layout, assuring a comfortable and successful introduction to the world of PDM.  Creating and searching for objects such as folders, documents, parts and drawings is simple with eMetaKON. With one mouse click of the object, the user has immediate access to all attributes and related data. At the same time, eMetaKON provides a clear overview of even the largest and most intricate data sites.

Functionality

The user simply selects the desired object from the icon toolbar and requests a search or creation operation. Context-dependent commands are then presented for actions and edits on the object. At this point, the user can readily switch between the search list, various tasks in the workflow, and a data summary overview.  Object attributes and relationships amongst objects are clearly depicted in the user interface, with simple mechanisms available to include/exclude related objects, e.g. 'where used’ queries on parts and related documents within an assembly.  Application data related to the object can be displayed directly from the user interface using registered plug-ins or the application itself can be launched with a simple double-click.

bild4.gif (8039 bytes)Because icon toolbars are stored with the user profile, the user needs only work with relevant commands that represent logical concepts and connected PDM functionality. For example, if the user wants to edit an object, eMetaKON recognizes automatically whether this object is new for revision or already checked out.

eMetaKON provides a solid basis for eBusiness solutions, enabling geographically distributed, virtual work groups and project teams. With eMetaKON, the enterprise finally has the means to provide global Internet/Intranet-based access to up-to-date product information to a wide range of user groups, both internal to the organization and with external suppliers.  Benefits of eMetaKON include:
