The Bill-of-Material module (BOM) is based
on the Metaphase OMF and PSM modules. You can use it to build product structures in
Metaphase automatically from CAD data such as Bill-of-Material or assembly models.
Conversely, you can also generate a pool of parts from a Metaphase product structure. The
corresponding part master records and CL keys are then made available via this pool.
Existing part views and models can be exported to the CAD system, so that parts can be
accessed quickly and easily when generating CAD models of assemblies.

from CAD
The standard Metaphase
function for exporting product structures provides the user with information about the
single parts that make up an assembly. You can also use the product structure to locate
single parts in a particular assembly. In conjunction with the CAD interface you can build
assembly structures on the CAD side and copy them to Metaphase. Existing assembly
structures can be updated in this manner and new assembly structures created in Metaphase.
The information which is relevant to the bill-of-material, such as the article number, the
quantity, the item number and the length and width of the semi-finished product, is read
from the CAD drawing and made available immediately on the Metaphase side.
In addition, MetaKON allows a bill-of-material to be derived and
exported from a product structure in any desired DIN format. The bill-of-material can be
configured with the aid of a bill-of-material format file.
All version-neutral PMR data can be
represented in the bill-of-material. The bill-of-material is also available as an ASCII
file and can be printed out if necessary.
The adoption of the CAD model, the automatic creation of the product
structure in Metaphase and the subsequent derivation of the bill-of-material form the
integration basis for the CAD, PDM and PPS systems.
