The MetaKON DrMS module is based on the Metaphase OMF module. It manages large sets of drawing data in the form of drawing master-record objects and drawing objects. Drawing master records (DrMR) contain all the data needed to describe the drawings assigned to them. Several drawings (e.g. different sheets and representations) can be assigned to a DrMR by means of relations. The relations between these objects can be created either automatically by selecting a DrMR when the drawing is generated or explicitly by means of a drag-and-drop action. In addition to the MetaKON-specific modules, the user can fall back on the complete functionality of Metaphase, the basic system.
Other objects, such as memos, text files, papers, symbol images, product infos, etc., can be appended to a DrMR object. The images enable the contents of a drawing to be viewed without having to start the CAD application to which it belongs. This functionality can be used to check and locate drawings. Old drawings can be scanned in and displayed. Paper drawings that are kept in a folder or a file cabinet can be registered as paper objects in the MetaKON database by specifying the location at which they are stored, and thus traced easily at any time. DXF, IGES and other format files can be called up in the standard Metaphase Viewer. You can thus save not only drawings with the DrMR, but also additional information such as the flow charts for a system. This relation chain can be represented graphically as a tree structure at any time. The extensive research functions are available for the complete set of drawings, so that if solutions have already been found for specific problems, they can be accessed again fast. If the MetaKON DrMS module is used in conjunction with the CAD interface, title field data can be exchanged in both directions between MetaKON and the CAD system while drawings are being generated. The CAD side makes data such as the scale, the drawing format and the sheet number available. The part designations, the drawing number and other title field data are provided by MetaKON to allow the title field of the drawing to be kept up-to-date. The drawing numbering system is configurable, whereby the numbers can be defined manually, with the aid of a separate drawing number generator or by taking the article number from the part master record. The change, checking and release procedures are pre-configured in MetaKON. The master drawing principle supported by MetaKON not only enables turnaround times to be reduced, but also allows a "zero defects" strategy to be implemented.
