Parts Management System (PMS Module)

return to MetaKON main page

The MetaKON Parts Management System PMS is based on the Metaphase OMF and PSM modules, and enables part master records (PMR) to be created for single parts and assemblies. The design-relevant data which describes the part concerned is saved in the part master records in the form of attributes. Customer data and projects can likewise be created as MetaKON objects.

After the PMRs have been created and registered in Metaphase, relations can be generated between the individual objects. These include the assembly (product) structures and the relations with drawing master records and other documents that describe parts.

Parts can also be created for specific projects and thus customers. Each project is handled by a team of employees, who undertake certain roles and tasks and who are allowed to perform defined activities on the basis of the rights they have been allocated. The project management system is pre-configured in MetaKON, but can be customized if desired.

Part master records can be located and identified systematically with the aid of their attribute values (input fields of the part master record). Part searches are thus possible, for example, by specifying a part designation, an article number, a match code (search string), etc.

If a part or assembly is classified in the CL module, the associated variant of the CL table (CL part), part views, models and master drawings (if any) can be represented via the PMR.

The article numbering system is configurable, whereby the numbers can be defined either manually or with the aid of a number generator.

In order to standardize the part designations and avoid redundancy, the MetaKON PMS module manages the designations in a data dictionary. When a new PMR is created, only those designations which have already been registered are offered.

If a part or assembly is not classified in the CL module, the associated views and models are linked to the PMR directly. They can be copied to the CAD system if desired.

MetaKON allows you to use several different CAD systems. The appropriate objects, e.g. 2D part views or 3D models, are automatically exported to the correct CAD system, since this information is linked to them. Part views and models are classified according to the view key specified in DIN 4000 Part 101 (formerly DIN Technical Report 14).

The core of the Parts Management System is formed by the part master records for the single parts and assemblies. The company-specific terms which are employed in the PMR must be registered beforehand as objects in the database by the user and thus configured explicitly for the particular company. They include objects belonging to classes such as article type, article group, material and life-cycle status.

In addition to distinguishing between single parts and assemblies, each part master record also indicates the geometry class according to DIN 4000 Part 101. The MetaKON PMS module differentiates between standard parts, part assemblies, semi-finished products, etc.

The user can create part master records in two ways. Firstly, the record can be called up directly via a menu option. In this case, a part master record without an CL reference is created. Secondly, the part master record can be created by means of an entry in an CL table row, in which case the appropriate CL key is also used in the record.

Once the part master record has been created, you can generate more relations for this object by assigning documents, drawing master records, symbol images, etc. to the PMR by means of drag-and-drop actions.
