Nowadays product data management is no longer only the management of CAD data, product structures or configurations. The communication relating to a product or a project is a part of it as well.
Probably you are already using a corporate communication system such as Microsoft® Outlook or Lotus Notes. You communicate by e-mail with employees, customers or suppliers every day. And surely you also exchange records or product descriptions via e-mail.
Unfortunately, these documents sometimes get burried in the large number of e-mails. Possibly it takes a long time to find special records in the files of the communication system.
A similar problem concerning files is well-known and is solved by the usage of a PDM system. So, the most obvious thing to do is to transfer the PDM solution principle to the communication system.
... with the aid of MetaMS
MetaMS offers you the ability to store documents relating to a product or project that you receive by e-mail or which you have already filed in Microsoft® Outlook with the attached data files in the Metaphase PDM system.
Register relevant e-mails and accessory attachments in the PDM system in a simple and quick manner. The installation of a document master record, the conversion to a data format and the transfer to the PDM-system can be released by one click of the mouse in Microsoft® Outlook. Checking your daily e-mails is hardly disturbed by this process. Of course, you can assign the document master record to a parts master record, as you would normally. For that, just start Metaphase outside of Outlook.
What is MetaMS?
MetaMS is an additional module for Metaphase which was developed by ECS GmbH especially for the use together with the communication program Microsoft® Outlook. With the aid of MetaMS, incoming e-mails with their attachments can be registered directly from Outlook to Metaphase. MetaMS carries out the complete registration automatically. Thus the Outlook user has no longer to worry about any of these details.

in MetaMS Version 2.0:
In version 2.0 the functions dealing with the integration of Metaphase LifeCycle module are further enhanced.
With that the tasks of the Metaphase Workflow are transferred automatically to the Microsoft® Outlook task list. In Microsoft® Outlook the user can agree or reject. Afterwards, processing of the LifeCycle is continued.
