The Lake Tahoe Chautauqua

Chautauqua is a program where humanities scholars study and then portray historical figures.  Chautauqua combines entertainment with education in an out-of-doors, community setting.

Our format involves the characters introducing themselves to the audience, sharing their life stories with anecdotes and quotations from their writing, and then answering audience questions.  Answers come from the character and are based on the scholar’s perspective and study.

Chautauqua a great success

Chautauqua was great.  Congratulations to all for enormous success spawned by lots of hard work.  The performances were outstanding and the audience was riveted by the presentations.  Another great tradition for Lake Tahoe.  Jim Clark, letter to the Bonanza

Volunteering for show a great experience

We recently moved to Incline Village and wanted some way to get involved in the spirit of the community.  Our opportunity came when we spoke with Jean Sergeant to become volunteers for the Chautauqua Festival.

The shows were outstanding but, most of all, we got to meet many people from Incline as well as its surrounding towns, who are dedicated to making this area a place to be proud of.

All of the volunteers worked very hard to make this event a success and they made us feel like family.  Thanks to all of them and a special thanks to Lyn Karol who was a dynamo.  It was a great experience that we shall always remember.  Sign us up for the next year!  Paula and Irwin Miller, letter to the Bonanza
