Demonstration of Driving I-DEAS from an Excel Spreadsheet

This is a brief demonstration of the power of Open I-DEAS, specifically to show how I-DEAS can be driven from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Preparation

bulletDownload and install the "Excel/Open I-DEAS Demonstration" provided by Mark Crawford of SDRC.  This should work on both I-DEAS Master Series and I-DEAS Artisan Series.
bulletDownload the piston_param zip file and unzip.
bulletRun I-DEAS
bulletopen a new, empty model file... units=mm
bulletApplication=Design, Task=Master Modeler
bulletFile, Import, Design Universal... piston_param.unv
bulletGet... "piston"
bulletPerspective view... Hardware Shaded
bulletSave model file

Demonstration

bulletRun I-DEAS
bulletApplication=Design, Task=Master Modeler
bulletopen the "piston_param" model file

bulletLaunch Excel
bulletOpen "OILink13.xls"
bulletSet Zoom to say 75% and rearrange windows so that the Excel window and the I-DEAS graphics window can both be seen
bulletLoad... Connect... Send Command (note the "Hello, World" in the I-DEAS list region)
bulletChoose and Get part... (should default to the correct bin and part)
bulletGet Dimensions... select the "overall_radius" and change to .180

Driving I-DEAS from Excel

bulletSet Dimensions
bulletUpdate

bulletselect "wristpin_diam" and change to .02... Set Dimensions... Update
