Demonstration of Driving I-DEAS from an Excel
Spreadsheet
This is a brief demonstration of the power of Open I-DEAS, specifically to show
how I-DEAS can be driven from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Preparation
 | Download and install the "Excel/Open
I-DEAS Demonstration" provided by Mark Crawford of SDRC. This should work
on both I-DEAS Master Series and I-DEAS Artisan Series. |
 | Download the piston_param zip file and unzip. |
 | Run I-DEAS
 | open a new, empty model file... units=mm |
 | Application=Design, Task=Master Modeler |
 | File, Import, Design Universal... piston_param.unv |
 | Get... "piston" |
 | Perspective view... Hardware Shaded |
 | Save model file |

 | Run I-DEAS
 | Application=Design, Task=Master Modeler |
 | open the "piston_param" model file

 | Launch Excel
 | Open "OILink13.xls" |
 | Set Zoom to say 75% and rearrange windows so that the Excel window and the I-DEAS
graphics window can both be seen |
 | Load... Connect... Send Command (note the "Hello, World" in the I-DEAS
list region) |
 | Choose and Get part... (should default to the correct bin and part) |
 | Get Dimensions... select the "overall_radius" and change to .180

 | Update

 | select "wristpin_diam" and change to .02... Set Dimensions... Update |
